Better science, better kids, and a DJ
It's almost impossible to believe that our Federal Health authorities, entrusted with protecting the health of our children, could actually be at fault for creating an epidemic of autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
Also, skeptics believe that a cover-up of this magnitude would be impossible to engineer. How could so many people be on board to cover-up information impacting the health of our children? In fact, most successful cover-ups in history, including this one, only require the coordination of a select few individuals in positions of influence who can ensure that data is produced to provide certain outcomes and, when appropriate, keep incriminating evidence from being revealed.
Why would people or institutions ever do this?
1.  Denial
Denial serves a purpose of protecting us from taking on too much negative information at once, particularly when the information is particularly disturbing, as this excerpt from Evidence of Harm details:
What could account for such denial? "The vaccination movement is sacred, untouchable," Mark told the parents [Mark Blaxill, founder of SafeMinds]. Government researchers inside the CDC or FDA "are in it for the satisfaction, the sense of mission. They want to go after disease, and vaccines are the way to go." The notion that vaccines might cause harm, even to a minority of kids, "threatens the very core of what these bureaucrats believe in," he said. "This whole apparatus is there to do good, to defend children. The scientists, the bureaucrats, the public health people, the pediatricians, all of them are dedicated to the proposition that they will serve the health of young children with these interventions [vaccines]. The notion that the interventions are harmful is unthinkable."
...The possibility that environmental factors might be at work, even with an underlying genetic component, presented "very inconvenient facts for these folks," Mark continued. "Theirs is a clean, neat model. It explains everything. It justifies their lives. It justifies their careers. It produces no guilt, no liability. It's the march of progress, the practice of good medicine, the future of technology. And it's all threatened by this one little fact. So they attack it. It must be wrong. It must be."
And, an interview with Dr. Elizabeth Mumper, a pediatrician working with biomedical treatment of autistic children:
Q.  What do your fellow pediatricians think of all this?
A.  Most of my pediatric colleagues have accepted the conclusions of the IOM and honestly think the case is closed on the issue of the vaccine-autism link. I am concerned that some of my colleagues think I have lost my mind.
Q.  So, what are you basing your theories on?
A.  My conclusions about the science implicating vaccines came after reading over 50 books, including some very technical ones about neuropsychopharmacology, biochemistry and immunology.
My interest in these subjects was piqued when I was asked to write a book chapter about developmental pediatrics, which includes autism and ADHD, and another about allergy and immunology. Since then, I have read hundreds of articles in peer-reviewed scientific literature about those topics.
I have a paradigm in my mind where much of the science fits together in ways that make the vaccine-autism link quite plausible -- although clearly not the only factor in autism. My husband, Michael, is a psychiatrist. He has a theory that pediatricians are, as a group, such nice people committed to helping children that the thought that we may have unintentionally harmed a generation of children is too painful to face.
2.  Fear of Self-Incrimination
Cover-ups take place when the persons involved in the cover-up are concerned about the personal risks associated with whatever they are trying to cover-up. If the CDC is responsible for triggering an epidemic of autism, as we believe they are, careers and reputations will be destroyed, prosecutions will likely take place, and history has shown us that people in the potential line of fire typically seek to avoid self-incrimination by whatever means necessary. Picture the tobacco company CEOs, taking their oath before Congress, and swearing that cigarettes do not cause lung cancer.
3.  Protection from Liability
The liability for triggering an epidemic of autism and destroying the lives of hundreds of thousands of autistic children is almost incalculable. Very powerful forces, like the pharmaceutical companies that make vaccines, are interested in avoiding liability at all costs. An excerpt from the Mercury in Medicine report from the Committee on Government Reform, U.S. House of Representatives is instructive:
"Mercury is hazardous to humans. Its use in medicinal products is undesirable, unnecessary and should be minimized or eliminated entirely. Manufacturers of vaccines and thimerosal, (an ethlymercury compound used in vaccines), have never conducted adequate testing on the safety of thimerosal. The FDA has never required manufacturers to conduct adequate safety testing on thimerosal and ethlymercury compounds...Thimerosal used as a preservative in vaccines is likely related to the autism epidemic. This epidemic in all probability may have been prevented or curtailed had the FDA not been asleep at the switch regarding injected thimerosal and the sharp rise of infant exposure to this known neurotoxin. Our public health agencies' failure to act is indicative of institutional malfeasance for self-protection and misplaced protectionism of the pharmaceutical industry".
